Kaminarimon Lantern — Reborn After 7 Years
views
On April 17, 2020, the giant lantern at Sensoji Temple’s Kaminarimon gate was repaired and restored for the first time in 7 years. The new lantern is 3.9 m high and weighs about 700 kg (1,540 lbs). The work took about 1 year and was carried out by Takahashi Chochin Co., Ltd. in Kyoto. This time, the metal fittings that had supported the giant lantern since 1960 (and the attached nameplates) were also remade.
